This small town is situated about 75 km east of Malaga in the province of Granada and has about 27,000 inhabitants that during the summer season get to be more than 100,000. Almuñécar has arquelogical remains dated from the Bronze Age, the Phoenician period, the Arabs, the Romans and the Christians.
Costa Tropical is the name of this coastal part of Spain, mainly because of its subtropical climate that gives an average winter temperature of 18ºC and in the summer 25ºC. Almuñécar has about a 20 km coastline with about 19 different beaches and natural bays.
The area is famous for its tropical fruits and especially the CHIRIMOYA fruit. This together with AVOKADON, which is also grown here, makes this unique area for big producers of just these two fruits, exported to the whole world. In the town of LA HERRADURA, belonging to the municipality of Almuñécar, visit the marina marina MARINA DEL ESTE as well as a fine 17th century castle recently restored.
